It couldn't have happened to a nicer conservative, hawkish, turncoat, jackass
Look! It appears that being a hyper-conservative Democrat who supports misguided wars and blathers on and on about non-issues actually doesn’t pay! (At least, in Connecticut, tonight.)
U.S. Senate - - Dem Primary 733 of 748 Precincts Reporting - 97.99% Name Party Votes Pct Lamont, Ned Dem 144,005 51.79 Lieberman, Joe (i) Dem 134,026 48.21
Lieberman’s conceded the primary (awesome!) and said that he’s going to run as an Independent in the the general election (boo!).
Me, I’ve always found Lieberman unpleasant. Imagine what might have been if Al Gore had picked a passionate progressive as a running mate in 2000, instead of an uptight Lieberman… but that’s just speculation at this point, of course.
No matter how the general election turns out (and my fear is that it will turn out poorly if Lieberman makes good on his promise), tonight, the progressives scored an actual, palpable victory. It feels great.
