good day, sunshine

Woke up this morning feeling great. Sun is shining, birds are chirping, I’m feeling full of energy, despite having not eaten anything solid for about 56 hours now… Dreams about the ice on top of the ponds melting, but the ice on the bottom (?) staying there until June and then suddenly burbling to the surface.

Spent hours last night designing the map-and-directions page of the invitations – somehow both Kate and I had spaced on needing to include instructions on how to navigate up here in the north woods, and we’ve got to get them printed and sent tout de suite – as well as finalizing our menu and the wording on our wedding certificate. As I’ve noted before, it’s amazing just how much attention even small details seem to demand when they’re For Your Wedding. Our caterers, for example, asked us whether we’d like to have champagne poured at all the tables, pre-poured at all the tables, or pre-poured at a single table at the entrance to the tent, so that people can take a glass as they come in. Kate and I talked about this for, I don’t know, 5 solid minutes, before realizing that this fell firmly into the “Don’t sweat the small stuff” category, decided, and moved on to other, more critical things. But for that 5 minutes, it Really Mattered just how and when we distributed champagne to our hypothetical guests.
