Monopoly

the silver dog lands on Park Place
She dreams of running, standing still in a dark place
filled with mirrors -- their light has burned her charcoal grey
She lives in Oz where all the technicolor munchkins play

While she sleeps the world cools -- she wakes on ice
She opens up the closet door, with shivering hands she rolls the dice;
snake-eyes; flashing lasers from the checkout line
So far down in debt it never dawns the day to climb

 <chorus> Monopoly of minds; she lands on what she sees
          Her rent is what she'll never be (no, she'll never be it)

His arms are frozen inches from her
His loving words have slowed to endless hours of summer
days and nights -- the streetlights hum, as she lies in thrall
She cannot hear him -- hear me -- knocking gently on the wall

 <chorus>

 <bridge> She's falling
          She's falling down
	  to a place where doubles set you free
	  She's rising
	  She's rising from the twisted wreckage of a magazine

Her lunch is tainted with the scent of despair (and it lingers on)
Movie posters watch her swiming through the air across her lawn
climbing to a surface which only exists in a T.V. dream
200 bucks for bread and water eaten in Free Parking's gleam

 <chorus>

 <descent> She'll never be just what she sees...
